The media calls Rep. Justin Amash a "Conservative Republican". They're half-right. He is technically a Republican. As is John McCain. But he's an anti-American libertarian more aligned with the left on a variety of issues. So this should come as no surprise.
Republican Rep. Justin Amash (Mich.) has signed onto legislation from Democrats to create an independent commission to investigate Russian election interference, becoming the second GOP lawmaker to do so.
Amash became a cosponsor of the Protecting Our Democracy Act this week after President Trump fired FBI Director James Comey, his spokeswoman confirmed Thursday following a BuzzFeed report.
Despite Amash’s backing, the idea of an independent commission or a special prosecutor to investigate Russia’s role in the election and possible Trump-Kremlin links hasn’t gained traction among most Republicans.
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) has endorsed the idea, but like Amash and Jones, he is an outlier among Republicans on the issue.
As is Amash. Glenn Greenwald's favorite Republican. Reason is predictably backing Amash. It's all they have left after Ron Paul stepped down.
No less an outlet than the Huffington Post praised Amash as "The One House Republican Who Can’t Stop Criticizing Donald Trump". Or, more accurately, America. Now the guy who agrees with the left on Gitmo and Islamic terrorists, will be backing their anti-Trump coup.
In many ways, Justin Amash is far worse than McCain.
Senator McCain has lost credibility with most Republicans. Amash tends to get a pass because of his libertarian camouflage. But then the mask comes off at the perfect time.
Justin Amash doesn't belong in the Freedom Caucus. Or the Republican Party. Or Congress. But of the three, the Freedom Caucus is supposed to have the highest standards.
