Watch out, #TheResistance is on the loose. That means random people's store windows being smashed just to show Trump. It also means that everything has to be made over to be anti-Trump.
If you're selling coffee, it better be anti-Trump coffee. If you're making a movie, it better be an anti-Trump movie. If you've got a gay pride parade, it better be an anti-Trump gay pride parade. And that's what LA Pride has morphed into.
This year’s L.A. Pride festival and its Resist March are likely to cost the City of West Hollywood $1.1 million, an increase of 71% over what the city spent on the event last year.
It's a small price to pay for being an ally of Islamists who want to throw gay men off buildings.
CSW, under new management, upset many by recasting the 2016 Pride festival as a music festival aimed at millennials. It ended up losing $396,000 last year and still owes $56,000 to the City of West Hollywood. In an op-ed written for WEHOville, former board member Dan Morin said CSW began this year with only a few hundred dollars in the bank and that its president, Chris Classen, had to pay its office rent himself. In 2015, under its previous management, CSW ended the year with $300,000 in cash. The annual Pride parade, with its corporate sponsors, and the festival, with sponsors and rented booths and admission ticket revenue, is CSW’s only significant source of income.
I'm going to go ahead and guess that the Resist march is going to produce fewer sponsors and booths. But when in doubt, double down on politics.
And don't even think of objecting if you like your windows where they are.
The owner of another prominent Boystown business voiced stronger opposition. He asked that WEHOville not name him for fear that his opposition could hurt his business. “I’m afraid to say anything because everyone will shout and throw rocks through the window,” he said.
That business owner said the Resist March would have a negative impact on his business and on his employees, who look to the Pride weekend for big increases in overtime pay and tips.
“It’s very last minute, there’s been no discussion in the community,” he said. “There’s no organic basis for this. What are we resisting?”
It sounds like the Resist march needs more local resisting than Trump.
