The Democratic Party has gone so far down the rabbit hole that this is genuinely startling to see. Bernie Sanders just promised an apology for slavery and some form of reparations. Hillary Clinton jumped on the #BlackLivesMatter bandwagon with both feet. As did Bernie Sanders. And here's Bill Clinton, before the New York contest, speaking truth to a hate group. And startlingly, he's the only one who did it.
This is a forceful criticism of the shameless hypocrisy and lies underpinning this movement. And it comes from a man whose wife's political career depends entirely now on black voters.
A visibly agitated Clinton told the protesters that the bill helped crack down on gangs who were killing African-American children.
"I talked to a lot of African-American groups. They thought black lives mattered. They said take this bill because our kids are being shot in the street by gangs. We had 13-year-old kids planning their own funerals," Clinton said.
One protester yelled that “black youth are not super predators” – a reference to a statement Hillary Clinton made as first lady. The former president shot back.
“I don't know how you would characterize the gang leaders who got 13-year-old kids hopped up on crack and sent them out onto the streets to murder other African-American children, maybe you thought they were good citizens,” Clinton said, his face turning increasingly red. “She didn’t.”
“You are defending the people who killed the lives you say matter. Tell the truth. You are defending the people who cause young people to go out and take guns,” Clinton yelled.
Bill Clinton was blamed for alienating black voters in Hillary's last failed campaign. The left is leaping for joy at the idea that he did it all over again. But did he?
1. The "Black Left" is not particularly popular in the black community. It's hard to say what support in the community most of them actually have.
2. Anti-crime measures were popular in the black community and the average older black female Hillary voter knows it.
3. Straight talk like this, coming from the right person, can be popular. In his own way, Bill Clinton is doing what Trump and Bernie Sanders have done, cut through the talking points and speak a truth that everyone knows. That makes him the anti-Hillary.
