Telling College Students They Need Residency to Vote Isn't Voter Intimidation

If telling people what the law is and urging them to follow it is intimidation, then all government is intimidation. That's a nice libertarian position that I don't think the average media outlet shrieking itself hoarse over Maine Governor LePage's comments believes in.

Here's the actual law.

Eligibility to Register and Vote in Maine

To be eligible to register to vote in Maine, you must:

Be a citizen of the United States;
Be at least 17 years of age (you must be at least 18 years of age to vote, except that in primary elections you may vote if you are 17 but will be 18 by the general election);
Have established and maintain a voting residence in the municipality (i.e. city, town, plantation or unorganized township) where you seek to register.

Governor LePage's crime was to warn college students in Maine of it. So there are shrieks of voter intimidation and calls for Obama's DOJ to crack down on this lawfulness.

 Zachary Heiden, legal director at the ACLU of Maine, called on the Department of Justice to investigate the intent behind LePage's statement. Heiden said LePage's words appear "designed to make college students afraid to vote."

Count on the ACLU to champion jackbooted federalist fascism. LePage is presenting actual concerns.

“Democrats for decades have encouraged college students from out of stateto vote in Maine, even though there is no way to determine whether these college students also voted in their home states,” Governor LePage said in a statement. “Casting ballots in two different states is voter fraud, which is why Maine law requires anyone voting here to establish residency here. We welcome college students establishing residency in our great state, as long as they follow all laws that regulate voting, motor vehicles, and taxes. We cannot tolerate voter fraud in our state.”

The left has decided to implement a statue of unique lawlessness when it comes to voting to the extent that even reminding people of the law is intimidation and ought to be investigated. Meanwhile they'll send people to jail for a duck pond. And they have no problem with "intimidating" people with constant reminders of the cost of violating their laws. It's just voting laws that they don't like.
