The media is predictably bypassing this in favor of the easy Trump-bashing. And this doesn't fit the narrative quite as well.
Powell was not happy however when Clinton and her 'mafia' tried to drag him into what he referred to as 'emailgate.'
In a series of emails he asks Cheryl Mills, who has worked with both Bill and Hillary, to make sure his name is not brought up when members of the Clinton team speak about her email scandal.
“Been having fun with emailgate,” Powell wrote to Beth Jones on March 9, 2015, days after news broke that Clinton used a personal email account and private server as secretary of state.
“Hillary’s Mafia keeps trying to suck me into it,” he continued.
And they lied to Powell and promised him that they wouldn't. And then they did.
The hacked emails show that Powell warned Mills, who had served as Clinton’s chief of staff, about continuing to link him to the scandal.
“You really don’t want to get me into this,” he wrote in a March 7, 2015 email. “I haven’t been asked nor said a word about HRC and won’t unless you all start it.”
Mills replied saying “agree and that message has been clearly shared.”
“so she will not nor will anyone she controls,” Mills continued, adding that “I can’t address folks who are beyond that so please ping or call me when you see anything that worries you.”
Except of course Hillary did. Because she remains completely untrustworthy.
"I have told Hilleary's [sic] minions repeatedly that they are making a mistake trying to drag me in."
"Sad thing... HRC could have killed this two years ago by merely telling everyone honestly what she had done and not tie me into it," the email read, referring to Mrs Clinton.
"I told her staff three times not to try that gambit. I had to throw a mini tantrum at a Hampton's party to get their attention."
"Everything HRC touches she kind of screws up with hubris,"
For once he almost got it right. It's not hubris. It's innate corruption.
Powell and Leeds also exchanged emails noting that Hillary Clinton did not look healthy.
