The media's open hatred for anyone to the right is a truly nasty development. And it's fueled by the younger generation of social justice activists who view the media as a forum for asserting their politics.
Combine the two and you get truly vile stories like this...
Lawmaker who opposed universal helmet law dies in motorcycle crash
(CNN)A Michigan state lawmaker who voted to repeal universal helmet laws has died in a motorcycle crash, according to Michigan State Police.
The gag is obvious. He's a Republican. He opposed helmet laws. And then, get this, he dies in a motorcycle crash.
There's just one problem with the gag.
State Rep. Peter Pettalia, who died after the motorcycle he was riding struck a truck, was wearing a helmet, according to information from the Michigan State Police.
Police said in a statement that Pettalia was driving south on M-33 in Loud Township at 5:30 p.m. Monday, just south of Atlanta, Mich., when a pickup truck turned left into his lane.
The helmet law had nothing to do with it. He was wearing a helmet. Amanda Watts of CNN is well aware of this because she does get around to eventually mentioning it. She's assuming, correctly, that a lot of readers will miss the admission.
Peter Pettalia leaves behind a wife and two children. But he's also a Republican, so Amanda had to turn him into the butt of a meanspirited joke. Because that is just the media now.
"Peter had a long career committed to helping the people he represented and served, whether as a volunteer firefighter, a township supervisor, or a state representative. He will be missed by many people here in Lansing as well as in his long-time home of Presque Isle and throughout his district," said Gov. Rick Snyder in a statement.
CNN however will not be missed.
