Contrary to American popular belief, Islam has a culture and history of women empowerment. In the Qur’an, which is believed to be Allah’s word told to Prophet Muhammad, women and men are described as equals in everyday actions and responsibilities
Sure.
They're equal in the sense that Mohammed says that hell is mostly full of women. And that the witness of a woman is deemed inferior to that of men.
Quran (2:282) - (Court testimony) "And call to witness, from among your men, two witnesses. And if two men be not found then a man and two women."
Sahih Bukhari (6:301) - "[Muhammad] said, 'Is not the evidence of two women equal to the witness of one man?' They replied in the affirmative. He said, 'This is the deficiency in her intelligence.'"
Very equal.
Muslim girls look towards these instances of strength for guidance in this scary, patriarchal society. These modern women are not afraid to go against the grain in the name of their belief like wearing the hijab to covey their religious devotion.
Our "patriarchal" society is scary. Meanwhile Muslim women who follow Mohammed's command to wear a hijab so that they are not "molested" are feminist role models.
