When somebody shoots a cop"in the name of Islam", it's hard to deny that Islam just might have something to do with it. But that's not what Philly Mayor Kenney is trying to argue.
During a police press conference Friday afternoon, Mayor Jim Kenney stated that he believes the shooting of a Philadelphia police officer has “nothing to do with being a Muslim,”despite the suspect claiming he did it in the name of Islam.
Mayor Kenney said, “In no way shape or form does anyone in this room believe that Islam or the teaching of Islam has anything to do with what you’ve seen on the screen.”
I'm not sure who is in that room, but quite a few Muslims, including the shooter, clearly believed otherwise. Denying that is... denial.
Commissioner Ross says the suspect has given a full confession, saying he did it in the name of Islam. “According to him, police bend laws that are contrary to the teachings of the Quran.”
Clearly Islam and the teaching of it has something to do with it. Blanket denials of this extreme kind can only lead to their own backlash.
When somebody announces that he shot a cop in the name of Islam, the evidence of the link between Islam and violence is as blatant as it ever gets.
